The Tiano
Larimar was volcanically created millions of years ago in the remote Bahoruco mountain range in the Dominican Republic.
Over time, bits of this rare blue Pectolite broke off, tumbled down and polished against the mountainside, eventually washing into the Caribbean Sea.
It is believed that the area’s original inhabitants, the Taino Indians, were the first to spot these brilliant stones along the shoreline, and most likely used their inherent mystic powers of healing.
Eventually all surface Larimar vanished, and today, it is painstakingly extracted from deep crevices within the mountain by local miners.
In this ring, a gorgeous oval 8.5x12mm Larimar stone is perfectly offset by the clean lines of this sterling silver setting, size 9 (USA).
